So, no doubt (unless you live in planet Zorg) you will have heard of Novella Royale handbags the fabulous collection of arm candy which is skillfully made from recycled vintage leather jackets, any Eco-conscious gal will tell you that not causing waste from new materials should be on the forefront of everyone agenda, I have however never come across an accessory line with such a concept of originality, style, and uniqueness such as Novella Royale. Being snapped up by editors for Elle Magazine features and, donning the arms of Jenniffer Love Hewitt and Kristen Cavallari each handbag is the ultimate style statement.
Needless to say I was thrilled in being able to interview the founder and designer of this uber cool brand.

MC: Who influenced you to to pursue your dream in designing handbags?NR: I have always been a self motivator, my dad didn't really support me wanting to be a designer until I actually became successful and made a living at a large surf brand... When I lived with him during high school he thought I was crazy sand papering my new jeans to make them look worn and old. He's come around full circle since and is one of my biggest supporters... But my mom has always had my back and pushed me towards my dream.

MC: Describe the very first handbag you bought, and what you loved about It?
NR: The first time I actually spent any real dough on a bag was in my early 20's I bought a Chloe off eBay, it's most likely a counterfeit but I love it none the less. This was when I wasn't well informed to all the harm the counterfeit fashion market does and I will never support that industry again... So I love it most for bring awareness about that market into my life...

MC: Which Bag from your collection mostly describes your personality?NR: Ooh good question because they all do in some way. I'm very moody with fashion, my style aesthetic is very vintage, a bit dirty with some sexyness, So I really put some part of myself in the design, I wouldn't put something out there that I didn't truly love. I don't design bags just for the sake of designing, waste not want not.., but if your twisting my arm the bag I'm wearing all the time right now is the Ash and the Coco... Yes I normally carry 2 bags everywhere, I'm a mother of 2 and need a lot of stuff .
MC: Choose an item of clothing for this season and which of your bags me would complete it?
NR: Chanel or DVF clogs with the Lux bag... Ooh or a distressed Balmain tee with the Hudson...

MC: Describe the process from sourcing the jacket material and the finished product.
NR: Allot of love goes into each bag. I personally hand pick every jacket from mounds of hundreds. My so sweet father cuts them apart an I take them to LA to be sewn together with the exception of anything with studs, I hand stud each one then take them to be made into a bag...

MC: What matters to you most in creating a design?
NR: Having the bag reflect a feeling or vibe, I look at photographs that inspire me and try to convey a feeling into the design...

MC: Ten years from now you will be...
NR: Hopefully sipping champagne toasting to another 5 years of Novella Royale!

MC: Your favourite quote is?
NR: Satisfaction is the death of desire

MC: And finally, what question do you wish I had asked you and what is the answer?
NR: Why use vintage leather jackets to make NR bags?
Because it's so important to not create waste and to reuse and utilize what we already have... Plus using a vintage jacket for a bag gives it soul and tells a story in each bag...
