Laura Biagiotti, nata a Roma sotto il segno del Leone, è uno dei più grandi nomi della moda italiana. Dal 1980 vive e lavora nella campagna romana, in un castello dell'XI secolo, amorosamente riportato all'antico splendore dopo anni di paziente restauro, assieme al marito Gianni Cigna prematuramente scomparso nell'agosto 1996. Nel 1995 è stata insignita dell'onorificenza di Cavaliere del Lavoro dal Presidente della Repubblica Oscar Luigi Scalfaro che ha premiato i suoi numerosi anni d'attività nella moda e l'alto contributo dato alla diffusione del prestigio del "Made in Italy" nel mondo. Laura Biagiotti è conosciuta soprattutto per la sua moda in cashmere: il "New York Times" l'ha definita "the Queen of Cashmere" per il suo amore per questo filato prezioso che ha usato fin dalla prima collezione con un approccio coltivato e diverso, evolvendo in una dimensione moda che prima gli era sconosciuta. Il 25 aprile 1988 è una data storica per Laura Biagiotti. Per la prima volta, a Pechino, 30 modelle della Repubblica Popolare Cinese hanno presentato le più significative creazioni della carriera della stilista. 125 abiti per una "Biagiotti story" imperniata sull'omaggio alla preziosità delle materie prime che della Cina sono il vanto: cashmere e seta. Nell'ottobre del 1991 Laura Biagiotti ha presentato alla stampa e a tutto il mondo sportivo il Progetto del Marco Simone Golf Club. Nei 150 ettari attorno al Castello viene realizzato un percorso di 36 buche che nel 1994 ha ospitato il 51° Open d'Italia. Nel 1992, a New York, Laura Biagiotti riceve il premio Donna dell'Anno per aver contribuito al prestigio dell'immagine del Made in Italy nel mondo. Il 1995 si apre con un avvenimento eccezionale. Il 5 febbraio si spalancano, per Laura Biagiotti, le mitiche porte del Cremlino per una sfilata-spettacolo che unisce con un ponte ideale la moda e la cultura italiana alla grande nazione russa. Nel novembre 1997 Laura Biagiotti ha sfilato al Cairo in una serata benefica per raccogliere fondi a favore della Croce Rossa Egiziana. Madrina d'eccezione della Charity era Madame Moubarak, moglie del Presidente egiziano, e l'incasso di oltre un milione di dollari, è stato devoluto per curare i bambini con malattie ematologiche. Per onorare la memoria del marito Gianni Cigna e lasciare la sua impronta indelebile nel Made in Italy, Laura Biagiotti assieme alle figlie di Gianni, ha costituito nel 1997 la Fondazione Biagiotti Cigna che ha ricevuto in donazione la raccolta di 170 opere del Maestro futurista Giacomo Balla. La Balmoda rappresenta il nucleo più importante della collezione privata che Laura Biagiotti e Gianni Cigna hanno in gran parte acquisito nel tempo da Elica e Luce Balla, le figlie del pittore, ed è stata esposta nel 1996 a Mosca nel Museo Puskin e nella stagione 1998-1999 a Roma nel Chiostro del Bramante.

Laura Biagiotti, a Leo, and Roman by birth, is one of the leading stars of the "fashion system" in Italy. In 1980 she joined her two great passions, fashion and archeology, by reconstructing stone by stone the 11th century castle of Marco Simone outside the gates of Roma where she lives and works. Her husband Dr. Gianni Cigna, former President of the Biagiotti Export S.p.A., has passed away in 1996: creative manager he has successfully explored new markets like the chinese or the russian ones. Laura Biagiotti became well known with her very first collection in 1972 and in particular for the cultual influence and research she puts into each and every one of her creations, for the fabrics she uses, for the fine workmanship and, particularly, for her very feminine style. Laura Biagiotti is above all famous for her cashmere collections. Because of her love for this yarn she has used it since her first collection with a fresh and different approach evolving it into a fashion item which prior to her was unknown, the New York times has renamed her as "the Queen of Cashmere". Laura Biagiotti link with the world of fragrance deserves a special mention. In 1982 Laura Biagiotti launched her first fragrance "Fiori bianchi" followed in 1985 by "Night", in 1988 by "Roma", in 1992 by "Venezia", in 1994 were launched "Roma Uomo" "Venezia Uomo", in June of the same year "Laura" and then "Venezia Pastello". In 1988 on April 25th, an unprecedented event in the history of italian fashion took place: in Bejing, 30 Chinese models presented the most representative styles of Laura Biagiotti's career. 125 dresses paid an homage to the materials that China has produced for centuries: precious cashmere and silk. In October 1991 the project of the Marco Simone Golf Club was presented to the press and to the world of sport. On 150 hectares surrounding the castle a 36 hole golf club has been completed and, due to its great beauty and high technical standards, Marco Simone Golf Club was chosen to play the "Italian Open" on may 1994. In 1992, in New York City, Laura Biagiotti has been presented with the "Woman of the year" award for her outstanding fashion and artistic achievements. In February 1995 Laura "conquered" the Kremlin Theatre with an Italian fashion and cultural show in the 6000 seat theatre of Moscow. Kremlin's theatre 24 by 18 meter stage became and ideal runaway for "East-meet-West" trade policy that also fashion, as a contemporary muse, contributed in strengthening. In June 1995 the President of the Italian Repubblic, Oscar Luigi Scalfaro, presented Laura Biagiotti "Knight of Labour" the most important pubblic recognition given to those courageous entrepreneurs noteworthy in acheiving initiatives designed to benefit the overall economy of the Country and in accomplishing significant initiatives to improve the moral and economic conditions of the working classes. Laura Biagiotti is above all appreciated for her constant engagement in the field of culture: in June 1996 Laura launched her new feminine fragrance "Sottovoce" with a great event in the Champs Elis‚es Theatre in Paris and on this occasion Laura Biagiotti has given a consistant donation in favour of the reconstruction of the burned theatre "La Fenice" in Venice. In June 1999 Laura Biagiotti presented in Milan her two new "young" fragrances "Tempore Donna" e "Tempore Uomo". Laura Biagiotti and Gianni Cigna also gathered the most important nucleus of the futurist paintings on fashion by Giacomo Balla. This collection, now part of the "Biagiotti-Cigna Foundation", was exposed in the Puskin Museum of Moscow in 1996 and was presented in Rome, at the "Chiostro del Bramante", from October 1998 to January 1999.
